This weekend’s FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX will see another full house, after Yas Marina Circuit announced today that tickets have sold out.
This year’s 60,000-strong crowd sees all areas including grandstand, hospitality and Abu Dhabi Hill sold out for the seventh year running, with the #UAE44 National Day celebrations adding patriotic flavour to the 2015 Formula 1® season finale in Abu Dhabi.
Race fans will be sure to see plenty of racing on track as the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton, who claimed his third World Drivers Championship in Austin, Texas and Nico Rosberg, who has secured second position in the Drivers World Championship look to finish the season with a win.
Lewis Hamilton will be hoping to end his championship-winning season on a high, after seeing his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg claim victory at the previous two Grands Prix. Hamilton will be fully focused on making sure his teammate doesn’t get the better of him three times in a row at the end of what has been a dominant season for the World Champion.
The Mercedes battle will not be the only fight on the track, however, as there is a huge amount at stake for mid-table teams and key points still be won. The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has always seen plenty of drama no matter what the Drivers and Constructors Championship standings, and there is no doubting the season-finale will be another incredible afternoon of Formula 1® excitement.
Yas Marina Circuit has had its fair share of epic moments as the circuit has provided what can be seen as stand-alone races in years gone by. Race fans will remember thrilling moments like the incredible battle of 2012, which saw Sebastian Vettel climb to a podium position from last on the grid, with Kimi Raikkonen winning his first race since his Formula 1® return. Two years earlier in 2010, crowds were shocked by Fernando Alonso losing the title to a young Vettel who claimed his first World Drivers Championship.
“Once again we are delighted that Yas Marina Circuit will be full to capacity with passionate racing fans. With our mix of world-class sporting action and entertainment we now concentrate on delivering an incredible weekend for everyone who will be with us at Yas Marina Circuit,” said Al Tareq Al Ameri, CEO of Yas Marina Circuit.
“The demand has been as intense as ever, locally and internationally, and the atmosphere is going to be fantastic. We have a lot planned as the country begins to celebrate the UAE’s 44thNational Day and I think the whole weekend will be a celebration for Formula 1® and the UAE.”
It has not just been the on-track action that has enticed a capacity crowd back to Yas Marina Circuit. There is a packed schedule of entertainment including world-class headline artists, UAE National Day celebrations including cultural and heritage activities, interactive digital zones and an array of street entertainers and games.
Latin pop superstar Enrique Iglesias, British Indie-rock band Florence + the Machine and legendary British band Blur will entertain international race goers, while visitors from the region can enjoy Arabic music icon Cheb Khaled, Emirati songstress Aryam, the Lebanese star Fares Karam, and the guru of Arabian electronic dance music DJ Said Mrad across the weekend.
“The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend is not just about sport,” added Al Ameri. “It is the premier social event of the year in Abu Dhabi, a four-day festival of live sport, entertainment that is suitable for every member of the family.
“We have been true to our promise of ‘Go Beyond’ for this year’s event, and we look forward to enjoying what will be another memorable season closer.”
