The Taiwan Expo 2017 in Malaysia was held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from November 9 – 11, and the theme for this expo is “BEST for MY Life!”  Seven main themes were planned for this expo according to Malaysia’s industry development, market need, and Taiwan’s advantageous industries. The themes include Taiwan Excellence products, green technology, Halal products, innovative e-commerce, education for professionals, international medicare, and cultural tourism. The expo introduced Taiwan’s technical hard power and cultural soft power to the Malaysian public. Overall, 180 carefully selected vendors from Taiwan exhibited over 5,000 high quality products and services, and the content of the expo covered many different fields.

In his opening speech, TAITRA Chairman James Huang stated that Taiwan is Malaysia’s fourth largest foreign investment partner. In addition, Malaysia is one of the top ten for countries with the most students and tourists studying and visiting Taiwan. Last year, over 475,000 tourists and 16,000 students from Malaysia visited Taiwan. To further promote bilateral professional and cultural exchange, the Tourism Bureau and the Council of Indigenous Peoples both actively participated in this expo.

During the expo period, Malaysian VIPs were also able to experience various outstanding quality Taiwan products for themselves. Visitors were curious about the S21 small electric transporter (that can be remote controlled and is self-folding) produced by Taiwan’s Uni-Tech Power Transmission, as well as the fuel cell motorcycle produced by APFCT, which they were able to test ride. Taiwan’s capabilities in waste glass, plastic bottle, and grain recycling and reuse left a deep impression on VIPs. Furthermore, sample tasting of Halal certified Taiwan pearl milk tea, smoothies, and croissants had VIPs coming back for more. This expo attracted nearly 20,000 visitors, and nearly 900 commercial opportunity matches were conducted. The three day expos promoted an estimated US$36 million in business opportunities and had outstanding results.

In 2017, the TAITRA held the Taiwan Expos in New Southbound countries for the first time. The expos is based on economic/trade cooperation, professional exchange, resource sharing, and regional link objectives. So far, the expo has been held in Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Malaysia with outstanding results. In total, nearly 100,000 visitors visited the expos. The expos also brought over US$170 million in business opportunities, as well as being widely reported locally. Some vendors also indicated that they will continue to participate in the expo next year. The expos were also popular among local companies and citizens. In 2018, the Taiwan Expo will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia, New Delhi, India, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Bangkok, Thailand, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In addition to continuing the promotion of advantageous Taiwan industries such as technology, green energy, and agricultural/aquaculture technology, the expo will also set up different themed pavilions and demonstration areas according to each country’s industry needs. At the same time, the expo will also cooperate with industry seminars and business opportunity matching meetings to improve B2B cooperation.
