Miniature apples, sheep milk gelato and ‘activated’ muesli are some of the latest products expected to reach Thailand in 2016.
More than 50 new product items from New Zealand were offered to Thailand’s top buyers in a private event held by New Zealand Trade & Enterprise this month.
“New Zealand producers know how to satisfy Thai consumer’s appetite for new and innovative products,” says New Zealand Trade Commissioner to Thailand, Karen Campbell.
“Thai consumers are becoming more focused on health foods, but still enjoy a sense of occasion, which makes New Zealand’s fresh, safe and traceable food an ideal fit for this market.”
New Zealand is one of only two countries to export more than half its total food production, and is the largest exporter of dairy and eggs to Thailand. It is also a large export of meat, with trade volumes increasing more than 18% last year.
New Zealand has a reputation as a trusted supplier of high quality and safe food to consumers in New Zealand and to more than 100 other countries. With over 100 years of experience in food production, science and exporting quality dairy products, New Zealand employs modern technological practices from pasture to plate.
There is careful oversight of the 35,000 to 40,000 regulated businesses operating 85,000 food premises in the country. Their food production system ensures food, such as meat, dairy; seafood, horticultural products and drinks are protected from contamination. This means consumers around the world can be assured of the safety and identity of New Zealand-produced food.
During the launch, buyers were also treated to a showcase of Thai dishes featuring the premium New Zealand produce, prepared by Thai celebrity chef Chumpol Jangprai. They were also transported virtually to New Zealand through a virtual wine tour of New Zealand.
Highlights of newly-launched Kiwi products:
