image014Expedia.com.hk is pleased to announce the launch of the website’s travel blog today (http://travelblog.expedia.com.hk/), making it the first online travel agency in Hong Kong to create this type of platform. The new addition to the website provides the community of travellers with a place they can go to share and discuss travel ideas, and gain new ideas for future journeys. Local Hong Kong celebrities Chapman To, Check Wan-chi and James Hong will be the first to contribute to the blog by sharing their personal travel experiences.

At today’s press conference in Central, each of the special guests discussed how travel has impacted their life.Chapman To said, “Life can be dull at times, but travel creates the best memories.” Director and writer Check Wan-chi said, “Travel broadens my mind and helps me to extend my perspective of the world. Through my adventures, I have learned the culture and way of living in many different parts of the world.  And the more different they are, the more I want to keep exploring! Travel has helped me to understand that life is full of choices and there is always one destination at the end of every journey – home.” James Hong shared his views on travel, saying: “The world is a book. Those who don’t travel just read one page of it.”

The blog will see travel experts, celebrities, writers and bloggers sharing their experiences, and will evolve and grow as travel lovers from all walks of life are invited to share their personal stories. Expedia expects that their current number of contributors, already more than ten, will double by the end of 2015.

Travel starts with inspiration, and researching is also a fun step in the process. Expedia, for the first time ever in the Hong Kong market, launched their travel blog to provide more comprehensive information to Hong Kong travellers.

Marketing manager of Expedia Hong Kong June Tsang said, “We understand that Hong Kong travellers spend a lot of time researching information online before a trip; in our most recent survey, over 90% of you told us that reviews are important. Because we know how much you value the opinion of your fellow travellers, we have invited a range of guest bloggers to share their personal travel experiences and tips on our new travel blog. We hope their stories will inspire new travel adventures for you.”

Expedia Hong Kong will be launching the campaign You can be a travel blogger! from today until 30 April, bringing Hong Kongers into the conversation. The theme is “Top 5 Must Do in…”.  Each submission should be over 500 words and include at least one image. The first 150 participants will receive two HK$300 coupons for booking hotels onExpedia.com.hk. The writer of the best blog post will win a HK$5,000 booking voucher on Expedia for booking air tickets and hotels.

Expedia.com.hk also announced the re-launch of their new and upgraded website today, which includes a selection of over 435,000 hotels and 400 airlines in addition to the all-new option to Book a Car (which is a growing trend among Hong Kong travellers) and Things To Do, which offers activities including local tours, and tickets to theme parks, museums and events.

June said, “We are excited to launch new offerings and a travel blog tailor-made by Hong Kongers for Hong Kongers. We will continue to listen to our users and understand what they need and want for their travel planning. Making it easy and convenient to plan and book a journey is our passion.”

Expedia currently operates more than 30 local websites worldwide, including in Hong Kong and the new Taiwan site that launched last year.
