Expedition Cruise Specialist Expands Art Programming in Exclusive Partnership with Mcmichael Canadian Art Collection

One Ocean Expeditions (OOE), leading Canadian expedition cruise specialist, celebrates exclusive partnership with the McMichael Canadian Art Collection.  At the forefront of this partnership are two Inuit art exhibits and an Arctic travel opportunity, bringing Inuit culture, people and land to the heart of One Ocean Expeditions’ comprehensive art program.

OOE is proud to be the exhibition sponsor of two Inuit art exhibits at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection: Tukillk: The Inukshuk and Inuit Art explores the many meanings and artistic interpretations of inuksuit (plural of Inukshuk) on Baffin Island. Ivory, Bone, Antler and Horn: Masterworks of Inuit Sculpture exhibition showcases utilitarian and decorative Inuit carvings created from ivory, bone, antler and horn. Both exhibitions will be on display from February 10th – May 13th 2018.

“One Ocean Expeditions’ partnership with the McMichael Canadian Art Collection is a true alignment of our organizations’ values and efforts to share, preserve and reunite Inuit Kinship and culture through art”, says Catherine Lawton, General Manager at One Ocean Expeditions.

“Partnering with One Ocean Expeditions enables us to engage with new audiences, inspire learning, and celebrate Canadian artists who shaped our cultural landscape” says Ian Dejadin, Executive Director of the McMichael Canadian Art Collection

In conjunction with these incredible exhibits, both organizations are collaborating on an exclusive Arctic expedition voyage, July 21 – July 31, 2019. Guests will have a unique opportunity to travel to Cape Dorset, the ‘Capital of Inuit Art’, and learn about Inuit works from Dr. Nancy Campbell, guest curator of the gallery’s Inuit exhibitions, along with other knowledgeable OOE staff and guest speakers on board the voyage.

OOE’s commitment to the Arctic is deeply rooted in northern community connections explored in the existing ‘Art in the Arctic’ program, where guests have the opportunity to learn and paint alongside leading Artists in Residence such as David McEown and explorer/filmmaker Cory Trepanier. OOE also hosts young artists from the Scott Polar Research Institute (SPRI) onboard its Arctic voyages, and the expedition vessels have been transformed into exclusive ‘floating galleries’ showcasing famous photographer, Salto Ulbeek’s historic photographic exhibits of early Polar Explorers.
