Wilpena-Pound-Touring-Scenic-FlightsWilpena Pound Resort is inviting Australians to view one of nature’s rare moments from the best vantage point – 1,000 feet in the air – as Lake Eyre/Kati Thanda starts to fill with water for the first time in several years.

Located approximately 700kms north of Adelaide, Australia’s largest salt lake – has only filled to the brim with water a few times in the last 160 years although periodic smaller fills have been recorded.  Scientists can’t predict how full it will get this year but the floodwaters coming down the Georgina and Diamantina rivers in Queensland are already bringing with them new fish life and as a result a teeming bird population of pelicans, silver gulls and gull-billed terns from up to 2000km away.

Wilpena Pound Resort is offering guests the opportunity to take advantage of this amazing phenomena with a two night Lake Eyre package starting from $1195.00 per person.  The package includes:

  • Two nights’ accommodation at the Resort (or our stylish Ikara Safari Camp from $1,253.00pp)
  • Full breakfast each day
  • A half day Lake Eyre scenic flight

Air Wilpena’s pilots have in-depth local knowledge of flora, fauna, geography and history providing visitors with an opportunity to immerse themselves in one of Australia’s iconic locations.  The scenic flight has been designed by our pilots to include views of Lake Eyre Wilpena Pound, the Flinders Ranges and the surrounding spectacular outback expanses of South Australia.

Lake Eyre by air

The Resort can be easily accessed from Adelaide with a 4.5 hour drive or with new scenic flights launched recently.
