Radisson Blu, one of the world’s leading upper upscale hotel brands announce a special recognition of its exceptional meetings and events program called Experience Meetings by the Green Meetings Industry Council (GMIC – www.gmicglobal.org).

As an industry first, Experience Meetings are recognized for innovation and thought leadership in sustainable meeting support solutions in the hospitality industry.

Footsteps in AsiaGMIC seeks to transform the global meetings industry through sustainability. The international organization champions the implementation of sustainability practices globally and provides advocacy, education, resources, industry research and recognition of industry leadership.

All 220 Radisson Blu Hotels & Resorts in Europe, Middle East and Africa, have committed to “Think Planet”, Rezidor’ strategy to minimize its environmental footprint – and Experience Meetings have helped drive the message and initiatives further in the meeting and events space.

Following elements supporting the green guarantee at Radisson Blu Hotels & Resorts:

  • Commitment of each hotel to reduce its energy consumption by 25% in 5 years, starting in 2012
  • Continuous efforts to reduce water consumption and waste generated in each hotel
  • Eco-labeled hotels: currently 75% of Radisson Blu hotels are eco-labeled
  • Paperless meetings
  • In-room waste recycling
  • Brain Food principles, including a maximum of locally sourced ingredients and vegetarian options
  • Meetings Minus Carbon – A Plus for Planners: Club CarlsonSM for Planners, the group’s loyalty program, will provide offsetting of the estimated carbon footprint of the meeting location, free to the meeting planner
