Immerse yourself in the rich aboriginal culture and history associated with the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney and attend its Aboriginal Heritage Tour which runs every day throughout Corroboree in November.
“The tours will focus on the vital role of plants in Aboriginal culture and the significance of the Garden in Indigenous Australian history,” said Clarence Slockee, Aboriginal Education Office at the Garden.

“We explain how the traditional landowners went about their daily life and how plants played a vital role as a food source, in medicine, for the construction of shelters, weapons and tools and also rituals and their culture’s spiritual world.

“You’ll also hear about the history of the local clans, the importance of their ceremony and dance, and the beliefs that were the bedrock of their culture.

“During the tour you’ll walk through the Garden and hear about the ecosystems and topography from 1788 until 1791 and how the land was used by both Aboriginal people and Europeans

“You’ll find out how Australia’s first people survived on the land for thousands of years before white settlement as their culture and society was shaped by an intrinsic connection to the earth,” he said.
