Ride a pony through awe-inspiring, high altitude desert landscapes in the culturally-rich, long forbidden Kingdom of Mustang, near the Nepal-Tibet border, on this outstanding World Expeditions’ trek.

The 17 day Upper Mustang: Hidden Tibetan Kingdom Pony Trek follows established trails along the once-thriving trade route between Nepal and Tibet, through a semi-arid desert with dramatic deep ravines and rock shelves, flanked by snowy peaks.

This is a truly remote journey through a scenically stunning landscape, simply not available elsewhere.  Crafted and escorted by Margie Thomas, whose extensive travels through this region pave the way for her companions on this  itinerary to access places and people many travellers would not even be aware of.

A highlight of the trip is travelling part of the journey alongside Tsewang Jonden Bista, nephew of the last King of Mustang, whose local knowledge provides insights into the local people’s customs and beliefs.

Participants will enjoy guided tours of monasteries, explore the walled city of Lo Manthang, meet restorers of the jaw-dropping Thubchen gonpa, Tibettan healers and the people of Chosar villagers, whose women wear the most extraordinary traditional dress.

Upper Mustang: Hidden Tibetan Kingdom Pony Trek departs Kathmandu on 15 August, 2018 and costs $5,790 per person.
