Explore the Quirky Happy World of Zlism by Zoie Lam at J Plus Hotel by YOO’s Latest Art Collaboration
J Plus Hotel by YOO, the artistic boutique hotel with a celebrated art space, launches a new creative partnership with homebred artist, Zoie Lam this summer. An eclectic, colourful showcase of feel-good pop art, Zlism by Zoie Lam will grace the space at [email protected], luring guests and art lovers into her colourful, cartoon world from 1 July to 19 September, 2016.

This pop-art exhibition by Zoie Lam aims to engage J Plus Hotel by YOO’s guests in a positively unique way. Known in Hong Kong and the art world for her literal creation of a whole universe occupied by food-inspired characters, Zoie’s art takes place in a planet known as “Zlism”. Her art depicts the world of Zlism’s residents and all its happenings, all the while brimming with positivity thanks to her usage of characters, their unfolding stories, and the splashes of fluorescent colours which brings them to life. Her aim is simple: bring smiles to the faces of her audience.
All 34 pieces of Zoie’s art on exhibit at [email protected] do exactly that, bringing smiles to viewers with thequirky characters and bright colours used to depict the universe of Zlism. J Plus Hotel by YOO has commissioned two art pieces from Zoie for this inaugural artsy collection, introducing “Little YOO”, a character driven piece introducing a new batch of colourful inhabitants in Zlism. “Tiu Tiu” and his friends are depicted as travelers exploring Hong Kong, showcasing various tourist hotspots in Hong Kong. Dressing up as a hotel ambassador, Tiu Tiu will be fitted with the J Plus x Zlism T-Shirt.
Highlights of her canvas collection include the brightly coloured “Mushroom Village”, “Little Mushroom” and “Fat Boy” featuring her beloved food-inspired characters. The caricatures of food all bear smiling faces, such as the recurring eggplant doing daily activities, and reflect the positivity that emanates from Zoie’s work. The Zlism world is depicted in a variety of acrylic on canvas, including circular, square, and triangular shaped ones.
Unique pieces by Zoie features acrylic pieces of art on wood and knit on canvas are exhibited as part of her signature series. Functional art pieces for the home reflecting the world of Zlism can also be enjoyed, including “Long Leg” knit doll, “Golden Collection Lamp” and “Keep Going” cushions.
The pieces in Zlism by Zoie Lam x J Plus Hotel by YOO are all available for sale, starting from HK$2,000 to HK$10,000.
Known for signature style of marrying dense and intricate patterns injected with vivid colours, Zoie further engages her viewers with her art mediums. Her pieces utilises acrylic paint and wool yarn, with the occasional cameo by an oil-based marker and drawing pen for monochromatic effects. Details are refined with brushstrokes and fine tip pens. Lastly, her canvasses are topped off with hand-knitted touches – a true multimedia work of art.
Zoie Lam is also known for her wall-painting artworks, and has been invited by Addidas, Converse, Levi’s, and N*ICE POPS for crossover projects. She has also held solo exhibitions in Harbour City Hong Kong and Eslite Book of Taiwan, showcasing a mixture of her works including real-time performance pieces which engage audience.
