Explore The Shores Discovered By Christopher Columbus And Uncover Fascinating History With 25% Off A Star Clippers Ocean Crossing In 2016
Combine the perfect balance of adventure and total isolated relaxation on board an 11 night ocean crossing from Cienfuegos, Cuba, to the island of St Maarten in the Caribbean, with one of the world’s premier specialty cruise lines, Star Clippers.
On board the Star Flyer, one of three of the world’s largest, tallest and most stylish sailing vessels operated by Star Clippers, your crossing commences in the picturesque World Heritage-listed Cuban city of Cienfuegos. Despite being one of the newest Cuban settlements, founded in 1819, Cienfuegos features some of the most stunning architecture in the country, including the Jagua Fortress, and a Victorian-era yacht club. Wader the palm-tree lined boulevards, with views of the sea on one side, and classic vintage American cars of every colour shade zooming past on the other.
From here, your voyage continues to Jamaica, discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1494, but perhaps more famous for being the home of reggae. Chill out to the gentle beat on the vast sands of Montego Bay, overlooking calm, impossibly deep blue water. For the adventurous types, there’s the option to scale the rocky waterfalls of nearby Dunn’s River, and for music lovers, a visit to the birthplace of reggae king Bob Marley is a must.
Continuing along the coast of Jamaica, anchor at Port Antonio and hark back to the 1920s-50s, when the island’s secluded beaches became a favourite of rich and famous, including film icon Errol Flynn, who literally washed ashore in a shipwreck in the 1940s. While you’re ashore, be sure to jump into the Blue Lagoon – chances are you won’t touch the bottom! Although legend has it the Lagoon is bottomless, it’s actually around 60 metres deep.
Another highlight includes a docking in Santo Domingo, the oldest city in the Americas, and with a fascinating history just waiting to be discovered. The remains of Christopher Columbus himself lie here in a fort on the Ozama River. You can also visit the sprawling 15th century Columbus family residence, constructed by son Diego, and cast your mind back to the days when the family ruled and expanded the Spanish New World Empire.
This unforgettable journey also takes in several ports in the laid-back, pristine bays of the British Virgin Islands, before a final docking in St Maarten/St Martin. It’s the world’s smallest island shared by two countries, with a distinctly separate Dutch and French feel on their respective parts of the island.
Passengers can enjoy the romance of sailing on board a true tall ship in a relaxed atmosphere with high standards of service provided by an attentive crew. All three ships have expansive teak decks, swimming pools, informal dining, a convivial Tropical Bar on deck and a comfortable piano bar and are large enough to offer first class accommodation and dining, but small enough to call into intimate ports, untouched by large cruise ships.
This once-in-a-lifetime 11 night experience departs on 26th March 2016, with prices starting from $3579 including port charges and a special 25% off. The Star Flyer only takes 170 guests, offering an intimate sailing experience in a relaxed atmosphere, with high standards of service provided by an attentive crew.
Star Clippers are offering up to 35% off all Cuba and Caribbean voyages, with various 7-14 night itineraries available. For more information please call 1300 362 599 or visitwww.starclippers.com
