Now in its 39th year, VisitScotland Expo, Scottish tourism’s flagship event, looks set to be another great occasion.

Taking place this week (11 -12 April) at the Scottish Events Campus (SEC) in Glasgow, the travel trade show will see the highest number of exhibitors since 1998.  Over 300 tourism businesses from across the country will showcase what they have to offer to almost 600 tour operators and travel agents from over 30 countries – including the USA, China, Japan, Australia, Brazil, Russia, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Germany.  6 buyers from Australia will make the journey to Glasgow this year.

Expo gives all Scottish tourism businesses the chance to promote their products and services to tour operators and travel agents acrossthe globe – all under one roof.  It’s also an invaluable opportunity for making new international contacts and learning new ways of doing business.

The V&A Dundee, opening in September, will be one of the exhibitors coming for the first time. Celebrating Scotland’s design heritage, inspiring contemporary talent, and encouraging design innovation for the future, this new attraction will be a huge boost for the country.  2018 also marks the Year of Young People.  A global first, it is a platform for young people aged 8 to 26 years old to have their voices heard on social issues and their talents celebrated.

Malcolm Roughead, VisitScotland Chief Executive said:

“Almost 80 businesses will be new to Expo and I look forward to welcoming many new faces from Scotland’s tourism industry this year.  It’s great to see that after almost 40 years expo is still attracting new and exciting businesses from across the country who recognise the value of the event.

“Tourism is the heartbeat of the Scottish economy, causing a ripple effect which touches every industry and community, creating employment and economic growth.

“I look forward to seeing all the exciting stands from key players across the country’s tourism industry. Their creativity, dedication and passion over the two days is sure to generate business which will contribute significantly to the advancement of Scottish tourism by giving it a real presence in the global marketplace and benefiting the whole of Scotland.

This year’s VisitScotland Expo will be the 39th staging of the event which began as the Scottish Travel Fair in 1980 before being rebranded in 2002.

The 2018 event welcomes some of the world’s biggest tour operators, including online, niche, accessible, active and adventure providers. VisitScotland Expo helps businesses achieve international growth and has a net economic impact of £2.5 million on the local economy.
