Leading Safari operator, Extraordinary Journeys, celebrates the life of young activist, artist, photographer and adventurer Dan Eldon, with an exclusive The Journey is The Destination Safari itinerary through the African landscapes that influenced his life and career. The youngest photojournalist working for Reuters, Eldon traveled extensively throughout the African continent documenting the world for international media outlets. The trip coincides with the anticipated November 7th motion picture release of The Journey is the Destination on Netflix telling Eldon’s story of abandoning his life in London to document the struggle, heartbreak and hope of a war-torn and famine-ridden region of Africa.

Eldon was one of the original”travel with purpose”explorers and led a group of 15 kids — including Jeff Gettleman (now the South Asia Bureau Chief for The New York Times and also the author of Love, Africa), Christopher Nolan (Oscar-winning director), and many other luminaries — on a safari to bring aid to a refugee camp in Malawi in 1990 (depicted in the film). His life ended tragically a few years later in Somalia when caught in the crosshairs of famine and civil war. In Journey is the Destination, Dan’s friends and family celebrate his life and legacy. The film highlights contemporary issues around refugees, the radicalization of youth, and the role journalists play in peace and war.

The ten-day journey is scheduled for July 2018 starting in Nairobi, Kenya. Travelers will be led by Eldon’s mother, Kathy Eldon, through the capital city and country on a safari with many educational and enrichment opportunities along the way. Mrs. Eldon will introduce visitors to inspiring personalities, such as journalist and author Maryanne Fitzgerald, Lara Leakey, NGO leaders and others in Nairobi who shaped Dan’s creative and professional life.
