With ‘buddymoons’ (friends-moons) becoming more and more popular with newlyweds, Extraordinary Journeys has assembled a shortlist of idyllic getawaysin Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, and Seychelles to accommodate the growing trend.

As the traditions and expectations of modern weddings continue to evolve, brides and grooms are also changing the way in which they experience their honeymoons. Designed as a honeymoon for newlyweds and their closest friends, “buddymoons” prioritize unique shared experiences over seclusion and round-the-clock romance. To cater to this growing custom, Extraordinary Journeys has identified seven exclusive-use villas, lodges, and a private Islands where shared accommodations and experiences are the highlights of the trip. Booked for the duration of the journey or as add-ons to a multi-destination Extraordinary Journeys safari, the selected properties celebrate the union of the newlyweds while strengthening lifelong friendships.

Set into the rolling hills of the Borana Conservancy in Kenya, Arijiju feels like a world unto itself. The monastic-inspired architecture contrasts with the luxurious comforts and abundance of activities on offer here. Thick, arched doorways and open inner courtyards, outdoor swimming pool and enlivening hammam, exposed rock walls and elegant chandeliers all come together to make this a peaceful sanctuary in one of Kenya’s top safari destinations. When not lounging by the awe-inspiring pool, guests can explore the wonder of the bush on morning and evening game drives, guided walks, mountain biking on well-established trails, and horseback safaris across Borana and beyond.
Capacity: up to sixteen individuals
