Do Australian men still value monogamy? And if so, where do they live? Premium dating site EliteSingles decided to investigate these questions with its first study of 2017.
Using anonymous data collected from 13,000 male EliteSingles’ users, the study pinpointed where Australia’s most monogamous men live based on how strongly respondents agreed with the statement ‘I think monogamy is essential in a relationship’.
By aggregating the data on an area basis, we were able to get a nationwide picture. We found that menfolk in Dubbo are the most monogamous in the country, closely followed by blokes from Bunbury and Cairns.
The top 10 cities to find Australia’s most monogamous men:
- Coffs Harbour
- Port Macquarie
- Surfers Paradise
NSW: A ‘state’ of monogamy!
A quick glance at the results and it’s clear to see that New South Wales is Australia’s most monogamous state – exactly half of the cities in the top 10 are situated in NSW. If you’re looking for a bloke who wants to settle down for the long haul, you know where to head!
In search of some clarity, we asked EliteSingles resident psychologist Salama Marine for an expert take on the matter. Here’s what she has to say:
‘Unfortunately, many women have been cheated on in the past which has made them doubt the existence of men who believe in monogamy. Being cheated on is horrible. Unsurprisingly, it makes many people question the fidelity of men in general. But they shouldn’t allow it to let them lose faith in love! While many women have been unlucky enough to have been cheated on by someone they trusted, there are actually still plenty of men out there who do value monogamy and want to build a lasting and loving relationship. This study demonstrates that.’
