A local filmmaker’s story of a family Yorke Peninsula shack holiday will be shown on the big screen in a campaign to encourage South Australians to explore their own state.

539749Randy Larcombe’s three minute film‘Kids, crabs and the best day ever’ will run in cinemas to promote Yorke Peninsula as part of the next installment of the Best Backyard campaign.

Local filmmakers have been engaged to showcase SA with their own vision and experiences in the latest installment of the Best Backyard campaign.

Tourism Minister Leon Bignell said the project has harnessed real people’s perceptions to promote our state.

“The charm of these five new films, which feature Adelaide, the Yorke Peninsula and the Barossa, is that they allow passionate, talented and creative locals to tell personal stories, which adds a powerful authenticity,” Mr Bignell said.

“The launch of the films follows the first phase of the campaign, which saw 12 films featuring everything from Adelaide’s March festivities, to the Central Market and summer on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

“So far, more than 50 local filmmakers, editors, producers and musicians have been involved, with more films to be commissioned and released throughout the year.

“These films have already been viewed nearly a quarter of a million times on YouTube.”

Kids, crabs and the best day ever captures the essence of a shack holiday on Yorkes,” Mr Bignell said.

“It fits hand in hand with the SATC’s Best Backyard intrastate campaign, which is now in its third year and reminds South Australians why they should consider a holiday in their own backyard.”

Randy Larcombe said he was attracted by the project’s focus on authenticity, “I wanted to show a typical family shack holiday on the Yorke Peninsula, so we packed the car, met some friends at the shack and let the camera roll for two days.

“Kids find fun in the simplest things – they slip into another world of their own making, where the days seem to go on forever without interruption,” Mr Larcombe said.
