Feringgi Grill of Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Penang, has won the Malaysia Tourism Award for “Innovative Restaurant” in the International Restaurant category despite keen competition among other fine-dining restaurant nominees in Malaysia.

The Grill, as regulars affectionately call the restaurant, triumphed over hundreds of other nominees nationwide based on food quality, value for money, food and beverage selection, décor and ambience, service and creativity of promotions. The award ceremony was held at the Putrajaya Convention Centre in the presence of Minister of Tourism and Culture Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.

The Malaysia Tourism Awards, now in its 20th year, is described as the “Oscars” of the tourism and hospitality industry in Malaysia. It recognises and honours tourism businesses and brands that contribute positively to Malaysia’s image. This prestigious award ceremony, held once every two years, is an opportunity to gather all national and local authorities, hotels, restaurants, attractions, tour operators and travel agencies to celebrate the Malaysian hospitality excellence known around the world.

Located on the mezzanine floor of Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Penang, Feringgi Grill was established in late 1973. Where many other fine-dining restaurants have come and gone, Feringgi Grill is the only restaurant in Penang that has been operational for almost 45 years and is still considered the most popular dining outlet of its class in Malaysia. Sited at a vantage point, the restaurant provides breath-taking views of beautifully landscaped gardens spanning 30 acres around the resort.

Inspired by the legendary beach of the same name, Feringgi Grill has two private rooms, a cigar room and a cellar with an extensive stock of wines, champagne and spirits.

“We are very proud to be the winner of the “Innovative Restaurant” category. The Grill strives to deliver exquisite modern and innovative cuisine, combined with the highest levels of service to every diner. It is very gratifying for our dedicated team to have their efforts rewarded. I would especially like to congratulate the team at the Feringgi Grill for their constant commitment towards ensuring that the restaurant remains competitive,” said Elaine Yue, general manager of Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Penang.
