A host of free events will take place in Campbelltown from November 3 to 12, 2017, as part of the region’s largest festival of the year which celebrates Campbelltown’s infamous ghost, Fred Fisher.

The annual Festival of Fisher’s Ghost is Australia’s only major festival inspired by an apparition and is one of Sydney’s largest carnivals. Held since 1956, the Festival is inspired by the ghost of emancipated convict Fred Fisher, said to have appeared in 1826 to reveal to police where his body was buried and the identity of his murderer. The legend has proved a popular story through the years, with the quirky Festival of Fisher’s Ghost broadening to showcase Macarthur’s rich and colourful history, cultural diversity and sense of fun.

The biggest day of the Festival will be on Saturday, November 4, with the ever-popular Street Parade beginning at 6pm on Queen Street. For the first time this year, the Street Fair has been moved forward to coincide with the day of the Parade, and the more than 100 stalls serving food, showbags, handmade jewellery, fashion and more will be open on Queen Street from 11am through to 8pm. Rides, sideshows, entertainment and food will be on offer at the Fisher’s Ghost Festival Carnival at Bradbury Oval on November 3,4,5,10,11 and 12, with fireworks from 9pm on November 4 and 11, 2017.
