#FestivalHacks with STA Travel

Are you breaking (losing) your Festival-virginity this year? Or maybe you’re a seasoned Festi-head? Coachella marked the start of Festival Season around the world and this year it’s looking big!! STA Travel has put together their top #FestivalHacks for you to cruiiiiise through festival season. Below are some that you may not have thought about to make sure you get the best festival experience of all time.

Whether you’re battling mudslides at Glastonbury, fist pumping at Ultra Croatia or Lollapalooza, clinking stynes of beer at Oktoberfest or getting tomato-saucy at La Tomatina, we’ve got you covered.

1. Book ya ride IN ADVANCE Mark our words, there is nothing, and we mean NOTHING worse than being part of a hungover, tired and smelly group of people all trying to compete for a coveted seat on the bus/train/cab back from a festival. As they say, “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail”. Need to organise getting to and from a festival? DO. IT. IN. ADVANCE.

2. Ain’t nobody got time for luxury. You’re in a foreign country, you need tents/sleeping bags/temporary accommodation for your however-many-days-long festival, but you’re on a backpackers budget. Go cheap, go disposable and go comfortable.

2. Ain’t nobody got time for luxury. You’re in a foreign country, you need tents/sleeping bags/temporary accommodation for your however-many-days-long festival, but you’re on a backpackers budget. Go cheap, go disposable and go comfortable.

3. X marks the spot Find an obvious landmark and make it your meeting spot. Losing your mates in a big crowd is inevitable, as is little to no phone reception – so decide on a meet up spot that is a big enough landmark to see from all over the festival ground – a phone tower, an entrance to a stage, a food stall. Whatever it is, make it known amongst the group that if you get separated, you’ve got a plan of action to meet up again.

4. Festi-First-Aid. Band-aids, chapstick, sunscreen, moisturiser…these are a few of my favourite things (to have in a festival first aid kit). Lifesavers – literally. Avoid chapped lips, sunburn, blisters and rehydrate from the outside in when you’re partying the day/s away

5. Showers? Who needs ‘em. We know it’s kind of gross, but if there’s an option to not shower at a festival…YOU TAKE IT! Stock up on hand sanitiser, baby wipes and dry shampoo, and don’t spend half of the festival lining up for showers where you’ll probably get tinea…#justsaying.

6. #PortableChargerForTheWin If it wasn’t captured for social media, did it even happen?? Keep a portable phone charger on hand to make sure you capture all of the #OMG moments to Instagram postfestival! Plus, if you for some crazy reason put your International Roaming on (have fun with that phone bill) it’s a sure way to keep in touch with relatives back home and friends at the festival.

7. You can’t go sa-wrong with a Sarong Sarongs are the unsung heroes of festivals – use them as a towel, a picnic blanket, a shawl when you’re cold, a dress when you’re hot, a shade from the sun, a blanket at night, a belt if you’re so inclined (maybe not that last one) and SO MANY OTHER THINGS. They’re seriously a godsend and they can be found at just about every market you’ll walk past. Cheap, easy and DEFINITELY worth the $15 investment.

8. Treat yo’self (to water, panadol, ear plugs and the comfiest shoes you own). Festivals are synonymous with three-day post-festival hangovers, ringing ears, and sore feet, but if you keep this in mind throughout the festival, we’re sure you’ll come out on top. Drink lots of water, keep panadol on you at all times, pack some a-grade earplugs (also come in handy when trying to sleep) and wear comfortable shoes. Comfort over fashion, people.

Some may be obvious, some out of the box, but ALL of the above #FestivalHacks will help transform you into a Festival Legend and make sure your experience at the next festival doesn’t make our list of Festival Horror-Stories.
