Fiji Airways leases B737 to fill gap as MAX crisis continues

September 11, 2019 Headline News No Comments Email Email

Fiji Airways confirmed yesterday it will lease a Boeing 737-800 aircraft from Malindo Air, to cover schedules while its Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft remains out of service, owing to the extended global grounding of that aircraft type.

Malindo Air will operate flights on behalf of Fiji Airways between Nadi (Fiji) and Brisbane, Sydney, Auckland and Christchurch. The temporary lease arrangement ensures minimum disruption to guests’ travel plans.

The aircraft comes equipped with 12 Business Class seats and 150 Economy Class Seats, each with its own personal inflight entertainment system. With its two-cabin configuration similar to that of a Fiji Airways Boeing 737, guests will be pleased with the onboard facilities of the leased aircraft.

The aircraft comes with its own pilots and cabin crew, with a Fiji Airways Purser or Senior Flight Attendant onboard to oversee the award-winning cabin experience Fiji Airways is regarded for.

Earlier this year Fiji Airways was awarded the coveted Skytrax 4-Star rating at the 2019 Skytrax World Airline Awards in Paris, joining a select group of elite airlines in this prestigious category. At the same Skytrax World Airline Awards in Paris, Fiji Airways also leapfrogged from 4th to 1st place to take up “Best Airline Staff in Australia Pacific”, signalling the airline’s continued commitment to world class service and customer experience.

The first Fiji Airways flight operated by Malindo Air will be a Nadi to Brisbane service on 16th September 2019. Malindo Air is a Malaysian airline with headquarters in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. The carrier currently operates a young fleet of Boeing 737-900ER, 737-800 and ATR72-600 aircraft for both domestic and international flights. It operates 800 flights weekly to over 40 destinations.
