Fiji Tourism Minister Faiyaz Siddiq Koay And Tourism Fiji Executive Chairman Truman Bradley Launch Biggest Ever Fijian Tourism Expo
Fiji Tourism Minister Faiyaz Siddiq Koay and recently appointed Fiji Tourism Executive Chairman Truman Bradley kicked off the more formal parts of Fijian Tourism Expo this week in Fiji.
Introduced by James Sowane, head of Pacific Destinations, a leading inbound operator and ground handler in Fiji and sponsor of the opening, the musical and cultural performance at the beginning of the event, was full of passion and focussed on the indigenous Fijian and Indian immigrant culture and history of Fiji, but more than that, is showing Fiji’s determination to be truly Fijian, integrating Fijian and Indian music and dance into an exciting and highly professional show.
Announcing the biggest ever Fijian Tourism Expo Minster Koay said that the Fijian Government was firmly focussed on the tourism industry, determined to broaden Fiji’s appeal as much more than a sun sand and sea destination, it had a commitment to growing arrivals to Fiji, with initiatives such as the Fijian Host programme set to improve service standards, Fijian Crafted aimed at ensuring visitors were able to buy locally made products, and the provision by the Bainamarama government of free education for all meaning that the Fijian tourism industry will be able to secure better educated staff.
He also said that business tourism and also sports tourism, focussed on golf and rugby were all key elements of Fiji’s future tourism strategy.
Minister Koya also revealed that Fiji’s Tourism Development Plan to be released shortly will include collaboration between a number of agencies with the overall target of $F2b in tourism turnover.
Speaking at a media conference afterwards, when asked about the long delayed appointment of a new CEO for Tourism Fiji, Minster Koay said “There is no rush … it has only been a year … it is not about the CEO … we have a perfectly good Executive Chairman … we have more things we need to do and get in place.”
