Finnair has announced the opening of a new route to Lyon, France for the 2018/2019 European Winter.

Known for its gastronomy, historical landmarks and proximity to the French Alps, Lyon is the second largest metropolitan area in France.

Finnair Corporate Sales Manager Australia, Sanna Ruuskanen said Finnair would operate two weekly flights commencing 11 December 2018 on Tuesdays and Saturdays from its Helsinki hub to Lyon with an E90 aircraft, offering smooth connections to the carrier’s Asian network.

Continuing with its growth strategy, Ms Ruuskanen also confirmed Finnair would be receiving its twelfth A350 aircraft in 2018 and adding several frequencies to its popular long-haul destinations.

Finnair’s route to Osaka will now become daily during the European Winter with two additional frequencies on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

There will be two more flights on the Hong Kong route on Fridays and Sundays, for a total of 12 weekly frequencies.

Finnair’s route to Delhi will become a daily destination during this period with the addition of a flight on Wednesdays and a fourth weekly Winter frequency will be added to the Phuket route on Mondays commencing 10 December 2018.

The schedule for Finnair’s flight to Miami will be modified to better coincide with Finnair’s other North American departures and its connecting flights to Europe.

More short-haul frequencies will be added to popular Finnair destinations in Europe during the European Winter, including an extra weekly flight to Malaga, Funchal and Tenerife, two additional weekly frequencies to Rome and Gran Canaria and a daily flight added weekdays to Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland.

Finnair will continue non-stop flights to Lapland from London Gatwick, Paris and Zürich and extend the operating period on some of its existing routes.

Malta and Antalya will continue operating from the next European Summer season until 9 December 2018 and the routes to Edinburgh and Alanya-Gazipasa will be extended during the European Winter, making them new year-round destinations for Finnair.

“Finnair is currently in the largest expansion phase of its history and we are pressing forward by growing our capacity to popular destinations in Asia and Europe,” said Finnair Chief Commercial Officer, Juha Järvinen.

“These added frequencies will offer our customers more choice and flexibility for their Winter plans.”

Finnair offers excellent connections from Australia with oneworld partners to 19 destinations in Asia and seven in the Americas plus more than 100 Europe destinations.

Finnair was named Best International Airline – Offline in the prestigious 2017 AFTA National Travel Industry Awards for the fifth consecutive year.
