Five Fabulous Football experiences to celebrate the start of the world’s most watched football league

Don’t despair that the World Cup has finished; the world’s most watched football league kicks off this weekend in Britain. Barclays Premier League will see stars from around the world return to their teams, making Britain’s pitch the next arena to watch.

There’s plenty for fans of the Beautiful Game to enjoy in Britain. So join the social conversation at #takemethere and check out our tips for five fabulous football experiences.

Cafe Football launch1. See Football

Thomas Cook Sport sells Match Breaks to Barclays Premier League games, as the official partner to six clubs: Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool FC, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur. Even if you wanted to see another of the League’s teams, they’ll be playing one of the six on offer and you can catch them away at some point during the season. The atmosphere of Britain’s football cities during a match is well worth experiencing, so book your Match Break, which includes tickets and accommodation, and get ready for some world-class footy

2. Eat Football

Former Manchester United players Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville opened the fantastic Café Football at Westfield Stratford City in East London earlier this year, and it’s scored highly among critics and customers. The menu is themed around football, but novelty doesn’t mean less flavour, with delicious burgers (choose between the Boss or Hometeam), classic English match day meals given a gourmet twist by two-Michelin star chef Michael Wignall – including pie, mash and liquor – as well as wine from the football-playing world. There’s to be a new Café Football at the upcoming Hotel Football (see below) in Manchester, along with a rooftop pitch!

Want to immerse yourself in the world of football? The same team behind Café Football is opening Hotel Football in Manchester, one of Britain’s key football cities and home to two of the world’s most famous teams, Manchester United and current Barclays Premier League champions Manchester City. Positioned opposite Manchester United’s OId Trafford stadium, the 133 bedroom hotel will open its doors in the autumn of 2014. The hotel will feature its own five-a-side rooftop football pitch and will be a must for footy fans from all over the world. Booking opens July 2014.

4. Play Football

Café Kick and Bar Kick are the best places for skilled football players – table football that is. Bar Kick is in East London’s trendy Shoreditch neighbourhood and is where football meets delicious food and cocktails, which you can enjoy in between games on high class French Bonzini Tables (posh ones, basically!), while Café Kick in London’s Exmouth Market also has the same fantastic footy tables and a buzzing international vibe, with money and flags from all over the world plastered to the walls.

5. Explore Football

You can go behind-the-scenes at your favourite team’s stadium, with most clubs offering behind the scenes tours that show you dressing rooms, press rooms and the legendary players’ tunnels that the pros run through before all eyes are on them and their feet on the pitch. The VisitBritain shop sells stadium tours to many clubs, and for others you can usually book directly from the club’s homepage such as Chelsea, the largest football museum in London, Arsenal where players provide the commentary or Manchester United’s state-of-the-art interactive experiences.

Manchester is home to the National Football Museum, a must-visit for football fans – learn about the game’s history, hear from famous players and relive key moments of history – and don’t forget to try a penalty shoot out!
