Flight attendant and baggage handler sex partners jailed

A senior international flight attendant who told police a shocking story of being robbed, stripped naked and raped by two baggage handlers has ended up being sentenced to a lengthy prison term, along with the alleged attackers.

The National, a major news source in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) ran the strange story under the heading: “Male prostitutes guilty of robbing and sexual assaulting flight attendant”

According to the account, a 58-year-old Frenchman, a flight attendant with an unnamed airline, was “found guilty of using male prostitutes, and his boyfriend and a colleague convicted of theft and sexual assault”.

The paper said the Frenchman had been in a relationship with a 23-year-old Pakistani baggage handler and had sex with him and a Pakistani colleague, aged 28, in his flat. He claimed the two Pakistanis then assaulted and robbed him.http://www.itehcmc.com/

The two Pakistanis arrived at the Frenchman’s apartment in Dubai’s International City in the afternoon of 26 December 2016.

“The new man asked to have sex with me but I refused, after which they stripped me naked and raped me,” the senior flight attendant is said to have stated.

He said that as well as attacking him and beating him up, the Pakistani pair stole several bank and work cards, his airport permit and driving licence, three mobile phones, a laptop and an iPad. He said the duo forced him to divulge the PIN number of his ATM card by holding a knife against his face.

The pair then tied him up and left the apartment.

Police arrested the two Pakistani baggage handlers, both of whom denied they had forced the Frenchman into having sex. On the contrary, they said the Frenchman had paid them AED 150 (AUD 54) each for it.

The two Pakistanis were sentenced to a year in jail each for theft and sexual assault. The French flight attendant admitted a prostitution charge and was sentenced to six months in jail. All three will be deported after completing their sentences, the paper said.

All of which makes a warning by Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) highly relevant.

DFAT warns visitors to the UAE: “Sex outside of marriage, and homosexual acts, are illegal. Victims of sexual assault may face criminal prosecution rather than being considered the victim of a crime. Some sexual assault victims have been imprisoned after reporting an incident to local police or upon seeking medical assistance.”
