Flight attendant lands plane after pilot passes out

April 4, 2017 Headline News No Comments Email Email

A female flight attendant stepped in and helped to land a plane after the co-pilot had passed out.

The flight attendant acted when the co-pilot of a TUIfly flight became incapacitated and lapsed into unconsciousness on a flight to Mallorca from Hannover last October, the German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation has revealed.

After the co-pilot, who had been suffering from low blood pressure, passed out a flight attendant filled his role and helped the pilot land the plane safely in Spain.

The plane, with 195 passengers and crew aboard, landed without incident, according to Metro.co.uk.

A TUIfly spokesman said safety was never compromised and the flight attendant would receive an award for her bravery.

In May last year, a passenger stepped in and took over the controls after the pilot fell ill on Jet Airways flight 9W063 from Bangkok to Delhi.

While the news made headlines around the world, all was not what it seemed. The Good Samaritan was not just any passenger, but a qualified pilot, in fact an airline captain who worked for the same airline. He happened to be travelling as a passenger at the time.
