Flight attendant suspended for eating from meal trays

December 14, 2017 Headline News No Comments Email Email

A female flight attendant has been suspended from duty after filming herself, as in the video below, eating from a long row of leftover in-flight meal trays.

The clip, which may have been filmed as some form of bizarre joke, happened aboard a flight operated by Urumqi Air, not exactly a household name in this part of the world.

CAPA Centre for Aviation says Urumqi Air is a Chinese low-cost carrier based at Urumqi Diwopu Airport, providing both domestic and regional services with a fleet of B737s.

The clip was filmed 45 minutes after the flight landed at China’s Yinchuan Airport a couple of weeks ago on 30 November 2017, guancha.cn reports.

After the video was uploaded to Weibo (China’s social media mini-blogging equivalent of Twitter) Urumqi Air issued a statement saying: “We confirmed that the air hostess shown in the video to be one of our employees at Urumqi Air. The flight attendant had been handling the leftovers accordingly and had seriously violated our company’s regulations.”

A report on the incident in The Independent said the flight attendant uploaded the video for “entertaining purposes” – but had been suspended by the airline pending a full investigation.

Urumqi Air had reiterated that its policy was to “recycle” any uneaten food from flights, the Independent reported, though it did not detail quite what that entailed.

Urumqi is the capital of the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region, located in the Tian Shan mountains in northwest China. It’s further away from the sea than any other city in the world.
