Brett Dee from Flight Centre Warringah Mall in Sydney has won an unforgettable trip to Canada after finishing top-of-the-class in Rail Plus’ 2013 Global Rail Expert program.

Dee, who began his career as a travel agent just 10 months ago, receives two economy class flights to Canada, along with a journey on the legendary Rocky Mountaineer and a trip on VIA Rail Canada’s extensive network across the world’s second largest country.Rail Plus_Global Rail Expert 2_Sponsors 2013_July 2013

Dee says he has always been a lover of rail and before starting his travel career he experienced train journeys in Europe, Africa and Japan.

“In terms of environmental impact and an enjoyable journey there’s no better way to travel,” he says. “Having completed such a comprehensive and entertaining course I can now advise my clients on rail itineraries with confidence.”

A total of 39 consultants were invited to take part in the fifth annual Global Rail Expert program, which provides agents with the chance to enhance their rail knowledge and skills by completing 10 training modules over a 10-week period.

Agents also learned about Australia’s own great rail journeys, thanks to Great Southern Rail.

This year’s runner-up was Maxine Barron from FBI Travel in Victoria, who wins two Gold Service tickets on The Ghan or Indian Pacific.

Victoria also provided this year’s third and fourth placed agents, with Akane Gonzales from QBT rewarded with a fully-funded place on an international Rail Plus educational and Kathy Kuhne from GET securing a return trip to Sydney to attend the 2013 NTIA Awards.

Fifth-placed Robin Woods from Travel Managers (NSW) will travel to Melbourne in December for the Christmas TraveLeague Luncheon.

Rail Plus National Sales and Marketing Manager Greg McCallum said the overall performance of the class of 2013 was unprecedented.

“This year’s scores ranged from a very respectable 87 per cent to an outstanding 98 per cent,” says McCallum. “In fact, of the 39 consultants taking part, 34 of them finished with scores exceeding 90 per cent.

“That reflects the calibre of those taking part but also the importance agents across the travel industry now place on developing their understanding of international and Australian rail products.”

All of this year’s graduates received a Eurail Global Pass and a personalised Global Rail Expert trophy, presented during a series of graduation dinners held around Australia this month.
