FLIGHT Centre has scored a Rugby World Cup 2015 coup after today being named an Official Travel Agent to the sport’s showpiece event.

And the company has immediately kicked off its World Cup preparations by outlining an expression of interest program for rugby fans considering travelling to the United Kingdom for the 2015 event.

Flight Centre Australia executive general manager Tom Walley said the program would allow fans to nominate games of interest – including the final, semi finals and quarter finals – and to receive further information as key event and package details were finalised.

“We are excited to have been selected as an Official Travel Agent for Australia and to be involved with such a high profile event,” Mr Walley said.

“We are currently talking to key suppliers and expect to offer a broad range of packages that include match tickets and accommodation, plus flights and other options.

“Given our vast product range and our expertise in building travel itineraries for customers, we also plan to tailor packages to suit travelling rugby fans, rather than offering a small number of off-the-shelf options.

“Based on the event’s profile and popularity globally, we expect strong interest in the packages.

“By expressing interest, Australia-based fans can pencil in their details alongside the matches of their choice and be among the first to receive package information and other details as they are finalised over the next few months.”

Matches will be played at 13 venues throughout England and in Cardiff, Wales from  September 18  2015 through to October 31.

Flight Centre’s allocation includes tickets for:

  • the Rugby World Cup Final at Twickenham on October 31
  • the Bronze Final at London’s Olympic Stadium on October 30
  • All semi-finals and quarter-finals
  • All of Australia’s pool matches; and
  • A selection of other high profile matches, including the New Zealand v Argentina and England v Wales

Rugby fans will also be able to express interest in other pool games that are not currently included in Flight Centre’s allocation.

The company expects to finalise pricing details for its Rugby World Cup packages early next year.

“While this is the first time that Flight Centre has had an official involvement with  Rugby World Cup, the company has a strong link to the event,” Mr Walley said.

“When the final was last held on English soil in 1999, the Wallabies, led by current Flight Centre board member John Eales, lifted the Webb Ellis Cup.”

Rugby fans interested in travelling to the UK for the 2015 World Cup will be able to express interest in Flight Centre’s packages by visiting from later this month.
