Flight evacuated after suspicious threatening note found

When it comes to threats involving airlines, it pays to be cautious. That was the path an international airline wisely chose when confronted by a mysterious menacing note.

When cabin crew on a Turkish Airlines plane in Istanbul discovered the note in one of the bathrooms, they acted quickly.

The note didn’t beat about the bush. It wasn’t just a hint or a vague threat. Somebody had written BOMB TO TORONTO on the bathroom wall on flight TK-17 during its pushback from the gate, a Turkish Airlines official told The Associated Press.

The plane was about to head to Toronto. It was leaving Istanbul’s Ataturk International Airport for Toronto Pearson International Airport.

The plane stopped, returned to the gate and was evacuated.

The airline told the Bloomberg news service it ensured passengers underwent security screening again. Nothing suspicious was found. It seems the threat was presumably a hoax by some misguided prankster or person with a grievance.

To be on the safe side, a new plane was assigned to operate the flight to Toronto.
