Floriade returns to Canberra this weekend

This weekend marks the launch of Floriade 2017, Australia’s premier celebration of spring, which will begin with the inaugural Floriade Twilight Concert on Friday night.

Celebrating its 30th year, Floriade is the largest flower show in the Southern Hemisphere, boasting over one million flowers grown both on-site and in portable flowerbeds off-site. This year’s theme of ‘rejuvenation’ has inspired the garden bed designs, floral installations and event programming.

Following extensive event and attendee research conducted in 2016, Floriade this year welcomes new changes and event enhancements. Championing the changes is the Floriade Twilight Concert, presented by Singapore Airlines, featuring David Bowie tribute act the ‘Ziggy Band’, accompanied by the Canberra Symphony Orchestra.

New opening hours will be 10am–7pm, allowing visitors to take full advantage of the programmed activities within the event, plus enhanced twilight entertainment. Floriade’s after-dark experience, NightFest, has also been extended to run across two separate weekends, 22-24 September and 29 September–01 October, from 8pm–11pm each night.

Floriade 2017 also features a sculpture garden, showcasing large artworks from local and national artists, as well as integrated shopping and trader areas and increased kids’ activities which encourage children to explore, discover and play throughout their Floriade journey.

Floriade runs until October 15, 2017. For full program details, visit floriadeaustralia.com
