Florida’s Historic Coast Recieves Plenty of Tourist Accolades as a Popular Destination

St. Augustine is the nation’s oldest city, but visitors to this historic destination and the luxurious resorts of Ponte Vedra will find plenty to enjoy in 2014.

In recent year’s Florida’s Historic Coast’s visitor experiences have been receiving great recognition. Here is a list of our impressive recent accolades:

USA Today Top 10 Best Historic Cities in the U.S. (April 2014) – St. Augustine is listed among the nominees as the 10 Best Historic Cities in the United States.

Trip Advisor (March 2014) – St. Augustine Beach was included in Trip Advisor’s list of the top 25 best beaches in the U.S. The Traveler’s Choice award recognized St. Augustine for its “endless beach.”

Coastal Living Magazine (March 2014) – St. Augustine named a Top 10 finalist for America’s Happiest Seaside Town 2014.  Florida’s Historic Coast’s 42 miles of stunning beaches, European-style architecture and historic charm are part of what helped place the city on the list. Reader voting for ranking the 2014 Top American Happiest Seaside Towns continues through March 31.

USA TODAY 10 Best Florida Attractions December 2013 – The unique history, stunning architecture and old-world ambience of St. Augustine’s Historic District and the oldest masonry structure in the US, the commanding 17thCastillo de San Marcos each made the  Reader’s Choice Best 10 Florida’s Attractions List.

Travel + Leisure America’s Best Small Towns for Halloween October 2013 – St. Augustine is America’s oldest permanent European settlement, and it has the forts, Spanish colonial architecture, and legends to prove it.

Tampa Bay Times Florida’s To 10 Gay Friendly Beaches September 2013– Tampa Bay Times listed the north beach access of the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve among its best Florida beaches for gay-friendly travel.

CNN Travel 22 Can’t Miss Beaches August 2013 – Beauty, history and unspoiled nature combined to put Ponte Vedra Beach on CNN’s list of 22 Can’t Miss U.S. Beaches.

Our Sunday Visitor Newsweekly – Top 10 U.S. Cities – May 2013 –Our Sunday Visitor Newsweekly, one of the most successful weekly Catholic newspapers in the country, included St. Augustine on its list of Top 10 U.S. Catholic cities. Noting St. Augustine is “the oldest continuously occupied European settlement in the United States,” the article explained the first Mass in the New World was celebrated in the city on Sept. 8, 1565, the day the Spanish landed. St. Augustine’s “rich Catholic history” earned a nod as did its patron saint-inspired name.

Fodor’s Travel Guide- 10 Best Small Towns in America– March 2013 –Editors of the travel guide publisher picked the winners based on criteria like population (all are under 50,000 people), and draws like great local eats, interesting museums and cultural points, and noteworthy natural attractions or outdoor adventures.

Smithsonian – The Best 20 Small Towns to Visit in 2013 – March 2013 – “St. Augustine has decided to throw itself a 450th birthday party—for four years. That would be overkill anyplace else, but not in the oldest continuously occupied European settlement in North America, founded in 1565 by Spanish conquistadors. Add this year’s statewide Quincentennial commemoration of Ponce de León’s 1513 landing and you’ve got a true history bash.”

Budget Travel – 12 Best Kid-Friendly Destinations – January 2013 – Budget Travel editors select St. Augustine as one of the Top 12 destinations when traveling with toddlers, tweens and teens.

Fodor’s – Seven Affordable Destinations for 2013 – January 2013 – St. Augustine among the list of seven most affordable destinations in the world.
