Four of the Best: Unique and out of the way accommodation in Victoria

October 31, 2018 Hotel Deals No Comments Email Email

Victoria is well known for its varying landscapes – from arid desert and grasslands in the North West to mountainous forests and bush in the East, from beachy getaways to snowy mountains, the state has it all. For those intrepid travellers looking to experience the outdoors with a difference, Parks Victoria has pulled together its top four out of the ordinary accommodations across Victoria.

  1. Glamp in a National Park

Nature lovers looking for an extra touch of comfort will get the opportunity to glamp in two of Victoria’s National Parks during Parks Victoria’s glamping trial. Based in Mount Buffalo National Park and Lake Eildon National Park, this is a unique opportunity to experience accommodation of this kind in two of Victoria’s most stunning and remote locations for just 12 weeks from September to December!

For more information on the two different experiences and to book, head to parks.vic.gov.au/glamping

  1. Experience the outback like a Shearer

Those looking for an unusual and unexpected experience, the historic Shearers Quarters at Murray-Sunset National Park is definitely that. Accessible only by 4WD off an unsealed track, the cottage sleeps up to 10 people, and is perfect for a group getaway to one of the most remote locations in Victoria. While basic, the cottage has some amenities, but its beauty is in its location. Smack bang in the middle of one of the world’s most stunning landscapes with abundant wildlife and flora, you can expect perfectly clear skies for spectacular nightscapes. Visitors should bring their own cooking equipment, linen, firewood and drinking water and expect to rough it a little.

  1. Be one with the Wild

Sometimes roughing it doesn’t appeal and a little extra comfort is needed. Located at Wilsons Promontory National Park, Cape Conran Coastal Park and Buchan Caves, Parks Victoria’s Wilderness Retreats offer visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in nature while staying in high comfort, low impact, safari-style tents.

  1. Live like a lighthouse keeper

One of Parks Victoria’s most unique spots, the lighthouse on Gabo Island is a maritime lover’s dream escape. With accommodation in the bookable Assistant Light Keeper’s residence, featuring three bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, laundry and bathroom with all linen provided, the lighthouse is the second tallest in Australia and was constructed in 1862 after a series of Shipwrecks. Explore the island, search for whales and go snorkelling or head back to the mainland to check out the wonders of Croajingalong National Park.
