The tulip has been Istanbul’s favourite flower for centuries. Organized by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality for the 10th time, the Istanbul Tulip Festival will take place from April 11 until May 3, 2015.
As part of the festival, millions of tulips will bloom throughout Istanbul and the festival will also host many artists and works of art, including the art of marbling, which has a unique place in Turkish traditional arts. With live concerts by Turkish bands, Istanbulites and visitors of the city will enjoy the first blossoms of spring. Moreover, tulips will be sold at sale points in certain parks during the festival.
Set in the historical peninsula, Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at Sultanahmet has a convenient location due to its close proximity to Sultanahmet Square, where the first-in-history Tulip Carpet will come to life with 545,000 tulips covering a space of 1,050 square metres (11,000 square feet). The tulip, which is the symbol of Istanbul, will be woven on carpets during the festival. This will be for the first time in the world. Additionally, millions of tulips have been planted in the parks of Istanbul as a part of the festival. For example, Gülhane Park, which is only steps away from Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at Sultanahmet, has 1,379,000 tulips of 86 different types.
A visit to the Old Town during the festival can be turned into a great excuse to enjoy lunch, brunch and dinner by the enchanting surroundings of Istanbul’s defining monuments. The Hotel offers an extensive Turkish menu containing seasonal local ingredients. Having a beautifully landscaped courtyard, Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at Sultanahmet is worth paying a visit during the months of April and May, as it is also home to 2500 beautiful tulips.
