International Craft Design Exhibition on Natural Dyes 2014, organized by the Ministry of Culture and National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute. This exhibition opens now until December 7th at the Institute in Nantou.

This great exhibition is themed on “nature colors in contemporary design.” Designers, from 10 counties including Japan, the U.S.A, Netherland, Britain, other counties, apply the features of different countries to their individual handcrafts, including furniture, interior decorations, clothing, and art works. Their works are with both fashion and environmental friendliness. 65 pieces of international level design are displayed.

Mr. Keisuke Toyoda from Noiz Architects is responsible for the exhibition design. He hangs up the artwork pieces and 85 suspension saucers from the ceiling of the height of 4.5 meters, attempting to create a forest of crafts of natural dyes. The use of light and shadow makes visitors experience the sense of color and material.

In our display, we have “Colors of Four Seasons” by Yoshioka Sachio, a famous dyeing artist from Japan; furniture made using wind by Merel Karhof from Zaanse Schans; hand-knitted wool poufs by Christien Meindertsma; digitalization of wax dyeing skills developed by Amelia Desnoyers (France), Eugenia Morpurgo (Italy) and Olivia de Gouveia (Portugal). From October 15th, we also have the runway for displaying natural dyeing fashion in Taiwan to show the true skills and abilities in weaving and dyeing applied to contemporary design in Taiwan.

Followed by International Craft Design Exhibition on Natural Dyes 2014, International Forum on Natural Dyes & WEFT TAIWAN 2014 2014 is coming up, starting from October 14th to 16th, organized by National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute, sponsored by the Minister of Culture. 357 experts and professionals are attending this important grand event in this field.
