French Quarter Festivals, Inc. proudly announces this year’s Satchmo SummerFest poster artist, Jane Brewster.  Brewster, a lifelong fan of Louis Armstrong, grew up in the French Quarter.

Her family home on Bourbon Street was within earshot of Pete Fountain’s French Quarter Inn, making traditional jazz the soundtrack of her childhood. Encouraged by her family to become an artist, Ms. Brewster earned a B.A. in Graphic Design and Illustration and has freelanced since 1990.

“I am enormously honored and flattered to be chosen as this year’s Satchmo SummerFest poster artist,” said Ms. Brewster. “I pulled out all the stops to make the best painting I could. I studied photos and footage of Armstrong in order to fully capture his positive, upbeat spirit. The poster shows the musician feeling very much at home on a French Quarter balcony.”

Satchmo SummerFest merchandise, complete schedules, and special events can be found at  www.fqfi.org. The work of Jane Brewster can be viewed at www.janebrewster.com/ or on her Facebook page: Art by Jane Brewster. Festival-goers will have the opportunity to meet her during the 14th annual Satchmo SummerFest, which takes place August 1-3 at the Louisiana State Museum’s Old U.S. Mint. Free and open to the public, Satchmo SummerFest is the premier American jazz festival dedicated to the life, legacy, and music of New Orleans’ native son, Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong.
