CNN Travel recently asked their readers to vote on the world’s best foods via a Facebook poll. More than 35,000 people voted, from all around the world. 50. Goi cuon, Vietnam. Also known as “Summer rolls”.
Favourite of: Melissa, Marketing Specialist
Why I love it: The freshness of the herbs inside was the perfect antidote to the heat of the monsoon.
Where I ate them: Cruising Halong Bay, the junk boat crew showed us how to make them, and then we all feasted!

39. Masala Dosa, India

Why I love it: A giant rolled up pancake filled with spiced potato, and dipped into tamarind sauce or sambal or coconut chutney – they are delicious for brekky or lunch and so fun to eat!
Where I ate it: Sailing the backwaters on a houseboat in Kerala, as we passed lush rice paddies, temples and coconut groves.

34. Prawn Dumpling, Hong Kong

Why I love it: I’d had yum cha in Australia, but a prawn dumpling – or Har gow by it’s Cantonese name – was a mouth-explosion of thin, smooth dough, cuddled around a soft prawn, bamboo shoot and spring onion centre.
Where I ate it: Din Tai Fung, Kowloon

20. Pho, Vietnam.
Favourite of: Becs, Product Executive
Why I love it: I love that rich umami flavour of the stock, with the ginger, peppercorns, cloves, anise, cinnamon and fish sauce. Sitting on a tiny plastic side-of-the-road “restaurant”, being delivered a giant bowl filled with noodles and slices of beef…just heaven.
Where I ate it: Hanoi’s old Quarter

9. Peking Duck, China.
Favourite of: Elisa, Marketing Specialist
Why I love it: That marinade! It’s made with lemon, honey, soy, rice wine and warming spices like cinnamon and anise. I love folding it into pancakes, like a little gift!
Where I ate it: Beijing, where it was created!

8. Ramen, Japan.
Favourite of: Lauren, Content Specialist
Why I love it: All noodle soup is amazing, but ramen kicks it up a notch. The standard ramen broth is usually made from pork or chicken bones. From there, I choose a Shoyu flavour, and add a boiled egg with the yolk still runny, and Chashu pork belly. I’m drooling just thinking about it.
Where I ate it: Osaka, at a hole-in-the-wall on Dotonburi

3. Sushi, Japan

Why I love it: fresh sushi for breakfast is such a treat in Japan. I like to order the chu toro (fatty tuna) for a generously cut piece.
