OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERALifeguards from resorts of Victoria Hoi An, The Nam Hai, Palm Garden, Olalani, Pullmans Danang and Furama Danang joined Furama’s newest lifeguard recruits for the six day course, which culminated in a formal SLSA Certificate Presentation on the last Saturday evening, May 24th 2014.

This activity was in its twelfth year and GM of Furama, Matthias Weismann said it was a way for Furama to assist the tourism industry and the community increase water safety and aid drowning prevention. Each year in Vietnam there is a terrible toll in drowning and by training more Vietnamese people to become more effective aquatic managers. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Furama is in a partnership with Surf Life Saving Australia and the Australian Volunteers for International Development (AVID) an Australian Government Aid initiative. Skilled lifeguard trainers come to Danang and are based at Furama Resort. These trainers then provide assistance to local organisations to improve water safety. The current Australian in this role is David Field who has 15 years experience training Lifeguards in South East Asia and over 35 years in total in the industry.

The current training at Furama aimed to give professional lifeguard’s world’s best practice standards in aquatic management, rescue, first aid and CPR techniques. The 6 day course was intense and put the candidates through swimming and rescue skill drills and builds on the lifeguard’s theoretical knowledge.

Mr Wiesmann indicated that if there was sufficient interest from other properties to become involved then an additional course would be run later in the summer.

Furama Resort congratulates all attending lifeguards!
