FWP Koala Plantation Funds Receives Substantial Donations

Featherdale Wildlife Park, home to the world’s largest and most diverse Australian native animal collection, has received two substantial donations to their Koala Plantation Fund.

Digital Photo Industries, the Park’s photography partner, has generously donated $23,939.00. An additional donation from Blacktown City Council for $7500 was received from the proceeds of the recent “Wake Up to the Wildlife” breakfast, a popular event held annually at Featherdale on Australia Day for local residents.

Featherdale Wildlife Park is home to around 40 koalas, including each sub-species, and manages an active breeding program to ensure their future.  This requires keeping up a constant supply of the right eucalyptus leaves for each koala which are currently sourced from numerous plantations.

The Park’s goal is to move to a self-sustaining food source.  This initiative was recently kicked off with the planting of the first 5,000 eucalyptus trees at a property near Lithgow.  This plantation will be followed by multiple sites across NSW.

The Koala Plantation Fund provides the financial support for this important initiative and in addition to much welcome donations, is funded from the Park’s visitors through their participation in the Personal Koala Encounters run daily at Featherdale.
