G Adventures has introduced rail-based trips as a new way for travellers to have grass-roots travel experiences overseas.

The new ‘Rail’ travel style launches with 25 itineraries between seven and 54 days duration, taking in more than 20 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America. All trips use trains as the primary mode of transport.

G Adventures created the new programme to meet the demand for affordable train-based trips. Belinda Ward, Duchess of Delegation for G Adventures Australia and New Zealand, says the introduction of the new rail option is a perfect opportunity for travellers to visit remote, scenic and iconic destinations in an eco-conscious way.

“These new mid-range rail trips will capture the adventurous, budget conscious traveller who enjoys genuine cultural experiences,” she said.

“Travelling by rail is such a relaxing and scenic way to travel, and it holds a certain romanticism,” she said of the new trips which include both local and famous train routes.

Countries featured in the new Rail programme include Bulgaria, Canada, China, Hungary, India, Japan, Norway, Russia, Sweden, South Africa and the USA. The rail itineraries feature as an insert in G Adventures’ popular 2015 ‘Earth’ brochure, which is available now.

In G Adventures style, trips include cultural encounters such as home stays, home-cooked meals with local families and visits to projects run by G Adventures’ non-profit organisation, Planeterra.

“Travelling by rail, our travellers will have the same cultural interactions that they would on any of our tours, as well as having a local ‘Chief Experience Officer’ sharing their insider knowledge and tips,” Ward added.

Example itineraries include: The Silk Road of China, an 18 day crossing which takes travellers deep into the China few ever see; Budapest to Istanbul by Rail, a 13 day trip from pastoral countryside to forbidding forests and fairy tale villages; and Kolkata to Goa by Rail which offers a unique look at India over 24 days.
