Garuda Indonesia Expands Flight Network In Singapore Operating Over 80 Weekly Flights

Indonesia’s national flag carrier, Garuda Indonesia, is re-introducing a new destination direct from Singapore and adding frequencies in response to strong demand for direct connections to and from Indonesia.

Starting 19 July, Garuda Indonesia will be launching a new four times weekly service from Singapore to Surabaya. As the capital of East Java, Surabaya is a hub that links Indonesia’s major cities in eastern areas such as Makassar and Balikpapan and the new route will provide more efficient trips for passengers travelling to destinations including holiday hotspot Lombok and the commercial city of Semarang. To celebrate the launch of the new route, Garuda Indonesia is running a sale on flights to Surabaya from now till 8 August 2013. Valid for travel from 19 July to 9 Aug, return flights on economy class will be on Garuda Indonesia B737-800sale from just S$265.

Offering enhanced scheduling flexibility for business and leisure travellers, Garuda Indonesia will expand its service from Singapore to Bali, with a new four times weekly service from 19 July and introduce the addition of a ninth daily flight between Singapore and Jakarta starting 18 August.

Singapore is Garuda’s busiest destination outside of Indonesia and with the addition of these routes, the airline will operate over 80 weekly flights from Singapore to five Indonesian destinations namely Bali, Jakarta, Makassar, Balikpapan and Surabaya.

“Southeast Asia is an important region and Singapore in particular is a key growth market for Garuda Indonesia. We are constantly looking to improve our flight offerings to provide Singapore travellers better connectivity into Indonesia,” said Nicodemus Lampe, Vice President, Area Asia, Garuda Indonesia. “With these new services, we aim to increase our passenger appeal and are confident that we will be able to capture a larger share of the market, in line with Garuda Indonesia’s ‘Quantum Leap’ strategy of becoming one the most profitable airlines in Asia.”

The new route and developments will be supported by a fleet of technologically advanced Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft featuring upgraded on-board services such as individual touch-screen LCD TVs throughout Executive and Economy Classes with Video on Demand entertainment systems. Passengers will also have the opportunity to enjoy the airline’s unique service concept known as the ‘Garuda Indonesia Experience’, which combines warm Indonesian hospitality with quality service that emphasizes safety and comfort.

The airline’s ongoing commitment to carrying out its transformation and achieving significant improvements has earned it a number of accolades. In July 2012, Garuda Indonesia was recognised as ‘The World’s Best Regional Airline’ as well as ‘The Best Regional Airline in Asia’ by SkyTrax, the industry’s most prestigious recognition of excellence and was also awarded ‘2012 Domestic Airline of the Year’ by Roy Morgan, Australian-based independent international research institute. Garuda Indonesia was named ‘ASEAN Premium Airline of the Year’ at the inaugural LIMA 2013 ASEAN Commercial Aviation Awards recognizing the airline’s outstanding achievements. Most recently, the airline was awarded “The World’s Best Economy Class” by Skytrax at the Paris Airshow 2013.
