Garuda Indonesia, the airline of Indonesia, was named “The World’s Best Economy Class” at the SkyTrax 2013 World Airline Awards at the Paris Air show yesterday.

In addition to being voted “The World’s Best Economy Class”, Garuda was also named “The World’s Best Economy Class Seats” by SkyTrax – a result of Garuda Indonesia’s continuous service improvement and on-going business transformation through its “Quantum Leap 2011-2015” program.

Both awards were given to Garuda Indonesia based on a global customer satisfaction survey conducted by SkyTrax between July 2012 and June 2013. The survey asked 18 million passengers from 100 different countries, to compare over 200 airlines in 38 aspects including service, on-time performance, food, safety and convenience.

CEO of SkyTrax, Mr Edward Plaisted, presented both awards to Garuda Indonesia’s President and CEO Emirsyah Satar at the Air and Space Museum during the Paris Airshow, the biggest air show in the world.

President and CEO of Garuda Indonesia Emirsyah Satar said that winning the “The World’s Best Economy Class” award this year was the result of hard work and commitment from all Garuda Indonesia employees to deliver the best service to the customer.

Vice President for Garuda Indonesia Australia/SWP, Bagus Y. Siregar, added:  “Even though Garuda Indonesia was voted “The World’s Best Regional Airline” by SkyTrax in 2012, our Economy Class only came in fourth place last year. It is therefore even more rewarding to see that the strong commitment from management and all employees to deliver their best has brought us to the top in 2013 ahead of Singapore Airlines, Emirates and Qantas.”

“Both SkyTrax awards serve as impetus for the airline to continue to strive for excellence, especially with the arrival of our two new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and the launch of the Garuda Indonesia First Class.”

Garuda Indonesia’s First Class service will include a “Chef on Board” serving find dining and catering to passengers’ individual requests at an altitude of more than 35.000 feet. In-flight connectivity will also enable passengers to continue their business activities or access their favorite entertainment, such as live soccer games on the sports channel, during the flight.

As the airline’s continues its fleet development program, in 2013 Garuda Indonesia will welcome 24 new aircraft, consisting of four Boeing 777-300 ER, three Airbus A330, ten Boeing 737-800NG, and seven Bombardier CRJ1000 NextGen.

The increasing recognition at global level encourages Garuda Indonesia to continue its “Quantum Leap” program through which it aims to be five-star airline and operate 194 aircraft by 2015.
