Garuda Indonesia to serve London through new non-stop Jakarta to Amsterdam flight

March 20, 2014 Aviation No Comments Email Email

Garuda Indonesia, the airline of Indonesia, will launch direct Jakarta to Amsterdam flights for the first time in the airline’s history on 30 May 2014, making the Dutch city its hub for Europe and beyond. Serviced by the airline’s Boeing 777, the airline will also service London Gatwick through the Amsterdam hub from 8 September 2014.

As the airline has been unable to secure take-off and landing slots at London Gatwick Airport for the peak summer season, Garuda Indonesia will operate its Amsterdam to London flight through SkyTeam member airline KLM before the airline services England’s capital from 8 September 2014.

President & CEO of Garuda Indonesia, Emirsyah Satar, commented that the initial Jakarta – Amsterdam non-stop service is aligned with Garuda’s entry into the SkyTeam global alliance on March 5, 2014. “Following Garuda’s official joining of the SkyTeam, the opportunities presented by the established SkyTeam hub at Amsterdam are too significant to pass up, as it will be an alternative gateway for passengers who wish to travel beyond Europe. They will be able to choose from 1,064 destinations in 178 countries served by the SkyTeam member airlines.”

Commenting on the changes, an Australian spokesperson said: “Following our entry into SkyTeam, we have decided to commit our efforts to our European hub, Amsterdam, and will do our utmost to assist passengers inconvenienced by the changes that result from this decision. We will be working with the industry and passengers to accommodate those who are affected.”

With the operation of Jakarta – Amsterdam non-stop flight, Garuda Indonesia will leave Abu Dhabi and utilise its code share agreement with Etihad Airways, following the codeshare agreement with the United Arab Emirates carrier signed in October 2011. Currently, Garuda Indonesia serves the Jakarta – Amsterdam flight with one stopover in Abu Dhabi with the Airbus A330s aircraft.

Garuda Indonesia will be operating both Jakarta – Amsterdam and Jakarta – Amsterdam – London five times per week with the airline’s Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, which feature a full 3-class cabin configuration with its globally-praised First Class, brand new business class service concept, and the world’s best economy class (Skytrax global airline awards 2013).

Garuda Indonesia passengers will also be able to purchase tickets for all major destinations in Europe as well as the America’s on a single Garuda ticket combining flight itineraries with connecting flights from Garuda’s many SkyTeam partner airlines, including KLM, AirFrance, Delta Airlines, Air Europa, and others.
