Delta Air Lines has appointed Clare Wheatley as General Manager – Australia and NZ and Virgin Australia Joint Venture (JV).  Ms Wheatley will serve as lead for the JV as the two carriers collaborate across the commercial spectrum in Marketing, Loyalty, Network, Revenue Management and Sales. In her expanded role, Ms Wheatley will spend part of her time collocated at Virgin Australia’s headquarters.

Newly appointed GM Clare Wheatley said “I am thrilled to take the lead on Delta Air Lines’ joint venture with Virgin Australia, which happens to be the only anti-trust immunised JV in the market”.

“The creation of the role means that we can essentially operate as one airline for our customers, from having a joint presence at wholesaler expos to bridged agency agreements and everything in between”, Ms Wheatley said.

Ranjan Goswami, Delta Air Lines Vice President – Sales West said “With experience in successfully leading large scale initiatives and driving innovation, Ms Wheatley’s leadership skills are well suited to help the Delta Air Lines and Virgin Australia Joint Venture continue to move forward and differentiate.”

“Together with the revenue management pricing co-location in Atlanta and the inauguration of the Los Angeles-Melbourne route to complement the JV’s Sydney and Brisbane non-stops, Delta and Virgin Australia will continue to build momentum in Australia. Ms Wheatley’s new role will be critical in shepherding this upward trajectory”, said Mr Goswami.

Phil Squires, General Manager, Alliances at Virgin Australia said, “We congratulate Clare on her appointment. Virgin Australia and Delta have a fantastic relationship and I’m confident that this will continue with Clare as Delta’s General Manager for our joint venture. Virgin Australia looks forward to working closely with Clare and Delta to keep delivering outstanding value and convenience to travelers from Australia and the United States.”

Ms Wheatley previously served in other roles with Delta in New York and London before returning to Australia to support the JV with Virgin Australia. Delta’s partnership with Virgin Australia is part of Delta’s global network of joint venture partnerships – including Aeromexico, Air France-KLM and Virgin Atlantic – that allow Delta to better serve its customers around the world.

The Delta Air Lines and Virgin Australia JV serves more than 170 million customers through the extensive and integrated network of destinations.  The JV operates 25 flights per week connecting 50 destinations in Australia and New Zealand with the USA, Canada and Latin America and flies nonstop twice daily between Sydney and Los Angeles and from Brisbane and Melbourne to Los Angeles.
