One regional NSW student is about to enjoy a stellar career-building opportunity thanks to a generous scholarship offered by the Australian Hotels Association (AHA) NSW in conjunction with the Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School (BMIHMS) at Torrens University.

Applications are now open for the 2017 Hospitality Scholarship, which will reward one lucky student with a $20,000 grant from the AHA NSW Foundation to undertake a 2.5-year Bachelor of Business (International Hotel and Resort Management), one of the School’s most highly regarded programs, with the funding going towards living expenses whilst studying.

Jerome Casteigt, General Manager – Hospitality, BMIHMS at Torrens University, said the School was delighted to be partnering with AHA NSW for the eighth year in a row to invest in rural talent and help a student receive the highest quality qualification in the burgeoning hospitality industries.

Recent data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics highlighted accommodation and hospitality as two of the industries currently enjoying strong jobs growth, with each sector adding approximately 40,000 jobs in the year to May 2017, and the luxury hotel sector recording solid annual growth as a result of continued strong demand from foreign tourists, especially those from China.[i]

“We recognise the attributes of our regional students, and we’re excited to be able to offer this opportunity to a student exuding the traits required to succeed in this challenging but rewarding field,” explained Mr Casteigt.

“A panel of expert leaders from within the hotel sector will judge entries for this life-changing opportunity. The successful student will embark on a program of study which covers a broad range of the hotel and hospitality sector, from guest relations, front office management, food and beverage to housekeeping and property management,” added Mr Casteigt.

The Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School at Torrens University Australia has an enviable reputation in the hospitality industry.Regarded by industry as the number one hotel management school in Australia and Asia Pacific (2017 TNS Survey), it is the first of its kind in Australia – an innovative, high touch and multicultural environment in which to pursue university level hospitality studies.

“We encourage nominations from young people across regional NSW who can demonstrate drive, determination and passion for this exciting industry. We also call on those communities to consider nominating outstanding young people who they believe would thrive as a result of this excellent opportunity,” said Mr Casteigt.

Applications are open to students living in regional NSW who will be over the age of 18 by the time the degree commences.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview in Sydney, before finalists progress to the Scholarship Presentation Dinner, part of the AHA NSW Awards for Excellence.

Applications close 16 October 2017.
