Get Caught Up in Rugby Fever as Hong Kong Gears Up for the Sevens

April 4, 2018 Sports No Comments Email Email

This year, Hongkongers and visitors will enjoy the 43rd annual Hong Kong Sevens like never before, thanks to an action-packed itinerary that will put fans and passersby in a happily contagious state of rugby fever.

A Festival for the Ages

The celebrations will kick off with the three-week-long Cathay Pacific / HSBC Hong Kong Sevens Festival at Lee Gardens. From March 24 to April 8, the Causeway Bay shopping complex will be teeming with Sevens-inspired activities for fans and families alike.

One highlight is the Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens Fanwalk (April 6-8), offering live entertainment, street artists, food and drink, and a whole lot more for visitors browsing along Yun Ping Road.

The StreetMAZE Hunt (March 24 to April 8) will light up the paths around Lee Gardens with a series of Hong Kong culture-inspired street art. Visitors can even win prizes by playing the StreetMAZE Hunt game on the HKSEVENS app.

The Seasons restaurant will be turned into a Sevens Clubhouse (April 6-8), where guests can enjoy special drink deals, catch the games live on screen, and socialise with rugby ambassadors and VIPs.

There’s a whole lot more in store during the three-week-long affair. Visit for more details.

Rugby Reggae

The Hong Kong Sevens Kick-Off Concert (April 5), starring British reggae band UB40 will celebrate the official start of the Hong Kong tournament. The veteran band will entertain fans with both their latest and all-time greatest hits.

A Ball of a Good Time

From April 3 to 8, a gigantic 25-metre inflatable rugby ball will be floating in Victoria Harbour, providing spectators with the perfect viral photo op. Last year’s champions, the South African Sevens team, have been invited to pose with the 10-storey tall full-blown artifact for maximum social media impact.

The Hong Kong Sevens

Established in 1976 and organized annually by the Hong Kong Rugby Union, the Hong Kong Sevens is the world’s premier international sevens event, marking its 43rd year in 2018. This year’s tournament will feature 77 matches with players from 40 nations, making it the largest tournament in the World Rugby Sevens Series.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board is a supporting organization of The Hong Kong Sevens.
