Gilbert Baker, creator of the rainbow flag — symbol of the LGBT movement — makes his first appearance in Colombia

The rainbow flag first began appearing at LGBT community events following the assassination of San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk, whose life, and fight for gay rights, was depicted in the movie “Milk.”

Gilbert Baker created the flag with the goal of uniting the community with one powerful and inclusive symbol. Today, it’s a global icon and is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, as well as the art collection at the White House in Washington, D.C. Each color in the flag has a meaning: red is for life, orange is for healing, yellow is for the sun, green is for nature, blue is for harmony and purple is for spirituality.

The Marriott Bogotá hotel serves as the host for LGBT Confex on May 26 and 27, 2017, providing attendees with the opportunity to network, learn and explore trends in innovative inclusion. The theme of the conference this year is “We Create. We Innovate. We Revolutionize.”
