Glitch knocks out online Cathay bookings for a day

egtmedia59Cathay Pacific has been fielding complaints from irate customers after a major online booking problem made bookings impossible for almost 24 hours.

Customers could not book flights through the airline’s website or mobile app from Monday afternoon, the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post reported.

The publication said that although Cathay Pacific said the site was under maintenance, it was down for so long that a more serious technical problem was suspected.

“We’re experiencing technical difficulties,” Cathay posted on its website. “Our engineers are working hard to get the site back online. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.”

The airline continued promoting its weekly discounted “fanfares” (released every Tuesday morning), even though customers were unable to book them.
