Seoul’s tourism and culture offerings will be the focus of high-level discussions later this month when the Seoul International Business Advisory Council (SIBAC), an annual gathering of worldwide business leaders, returns for 2013.

Taking place from October 24-25 at New Seoul City Hall, the meeting, designed to explore the various ways in which Seoul can capitalize on its growing corporate and cultural influence, will look at the theme, ‘Establishing Seoul as the Model of Tourism and Entertainment’.

A total of 150 persons are expected to attend. Along with Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon, noted guests will include Dominic Barton, Worldwide Managing Director of US global management consulting firm McKinsey & Company – and SIBAC 2013 chair, Maurice R. Greenberg, chairman of C.V. Starr & Co., Christopher Forbes, vice chairman of Forbes Publishing, and Timothy E. Lee, President, GM International Operations (Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Africa, and Middle East), among others. The two-day event will also include a press conference, networking lunch, and tours of Seoul.

Held every year since 2001, SIBAC covers a wide range of topics, from tourism and urban planning to environmental affairs and city branding. Gatherings in recent years have focused upon such topics as Seoul as an international tourism and convention city, its opportunities and challenges with the rise of the Asia-Pacific, and ways to improve the Korean capital’s competitiveness as a global city in the 21st Century.

SIBAC 2013 follows on the heels of the inaugural WTTC Asia Summit, which last month brought together public and private sector experts from 49 countries as they discussed the massive growth potential of travel and tourism in the Asia-Pacific.
