Going Green at Grand Hyatt Melbourne

March 19, 2015 Hotel News No Comments Email Email

On March 28th, Grand Hyatt Melbourne will join businesses across the globe to stand up for climate change by participating in Earth Hour.  A powerful statement will be made, when the external building lights are switched off for the hour between 8.30 and 9.30pm, along with all non-essential lighting within the hotel. 470466_num1058192_600x600

The main lobby will be lit only by lanterns, a dramatic scene created with the dimming of all light features in the interior, guests assisted by Grand Hyatt associates with torches to light the way.

Collins Kitchen and Ru-Co Bar will present a dreamy candle light atmosphere; where staff will be enlightened by using simple head lamps.  The unique menu and beverage items will take on the theme of the evening.

The Grand Club Lounge will offer an entirely different encounter where guests normally enjoy the spectacular city lights from the 31st floor – a far moodier experience will be had in which guests will experience the rare darkened view of the city of Melbourne with their evening canapé and cocktail.

Grand Hyatt Melbourne continues to implement change for the greater good when it comes to reducing energy. A host of room upgrades have been incorporated to take advantage of energy efficiencies, both lighting and water as well as air conditioning control systems. Occupancy sensors have been installed to switch off both lighting and adjust air conditioning when guests leave their rooms.

Other upgrades to the hotels main air-handling plant and cooling towers, along with adjustments to the boiler and chilling plant have added to the contribution in greatly reducing energy consumption.

Grand Hyatt Melbourne continues to investigate innovation in energy efficient methods, to continue to    reduce consumption and our commitment to promoting Earth Hour represents our engagement to building better communities and contributing to global change.
