Gold Coast: All That Glitters Is Not Just For Christmas

December 19, 2015 Destination Global No Comments Email Email

With a tag line that screams it’s famous for fun, you’d expect plenty of off-the-wall experiences on the Gold Coast and you won’t be disappointed.

This silly season, toss your espadrilles to the wind and cruise Queensland’s famous Glitter Strip in off-beat style.

1. This Tour Will Have You All Fired Up!

Christmas is a special time of year… it’s when the annual fireman calendar appears and flies off market stalls in shopping centres.  If you’re a sucker for a uniform, check out Fire4Hire for your chance to don a fire helmet and man a fully functional fire hose as you tour the Gold Coast.  Fire4Hire’s authentic Fire Truck Tours depart daily – with a screech of their siren – from Surfers Paradise and take in major landmarks.

2. ‘Ride The Hose’ Aboard The Jetovator

Move over Marty McFly, the team at Jetpack Adventure have taken the hoverboard and they’ve shaken it up with a touch of James Bond.  The splendidly named ‘Jetovator’ takes touring on the water to a new level as does its aqua cousins – the Jetpack and the JetBoard.  The Jetovator’s engineers have added smaller jets in strategic places to make you fly over the water with speed.  They say it’s as easy as riding a bike and the view is to die for!

3. Is It A Bird? Is It A Boat? It’s Super Duck!

A Gold Coast stalwart when it comes to touring, the brightly-decorated Super Duck is an amphibious vehicle with attitude. Able to leap from roads to sand, the Super Duck is also capable of hitting the waterways in and around Southport with a single bound, when its 500 horse power, twin jets engines kick in.  Cruise the Gold Coast harbour taking in views of the Broadwater, the Glitter strip and the hinterland – it’s quack-tacular.

4. Eat Your Heart Out Bond…

Aston Martins are so 2015.  The aptly named Exotic Cars have more high-end sports cars on their books than a James Bond flick and they’re available to tour the Gold Coast.  Set your sights on a sleek silver Maserati GranSport, a ruby red Ferrari 360 Spider or a uber sexy Lamborghini Gallardo in the Marque Cars section or a Porsche Boxster in the Sport+ Class and test the mettle on some of the coast’s gorgeous hinterland road.

5. Trike One And You’re Out (And About)!

Not only does a Boom Mustang Thunderbird sound exotic, it’s come straight off a production line in Europe and it’s got the Peugeot engine to prove it. Brisbane Trike Tours runs a five-hour Tamborine Tour (ex Brisbane) that offers a glimpse of the green behind the Gold Coast and their experienced pilots know all the cool places to stop. This is one tour that’ll have your heart thump-thumping.

6. Segway Safari This Way

They take a little bit of getting used to, but once you’ve mastered the art of Segway-ing, you’ll be a king on two wheels.  Time Out Adventures offer a 90-minute Segway Safari that cruises along the Gold Coast coastline before heading bush in the Federation Coastal Reserve. When your Segway time is up, you’ll have mastered sand, gravel and grass and seen plenty of the Gold Coast to boot.
